#8: Delaware – Scrapple Sandwiches
Fourth of July in Delaware often kicks off with scrapple. Yes, scrapple—for breakfast. A Mid-Atlantic curiosity made of pork scraps and cornmeal, this crispy, savory slab has been a Delaware staple since the colonial era. On Independence Day, it’s often served between two slices of bread with egg, cheese, and plenty of hot sauce.

Why? Because Delawareans like to start their holidays strong. Scrapple is heritage on a bun: humble, hearty, and completely unpretentious. It’s what you eat while setting up folding chairs on your neighbor’s lawn or marking your parade spot. Fireworks may be hours away, but scrapple gets there early.
