#38: Kelsey Grammer Held the Record as TV’s Longest-Running Comedy Character
Kelsey Grammer first showed up as Dr. Frasier Crane in the season three premiere of Cheers in 1984. He was only supposed to stick around briefly, but audiences loved him so much that he quickly became a full-fledged regular. What started as a temporary character turned into something historic.

Just four months after Cheers ended in 1993, Frasier premiered — filmed on a redesigned Cheers stage — and went on to run another 11 seasons. Altogether, Grammer played Frasier Crane for a full 20 years, setting a record for the longest run of any American comedy character.
