Rock musician Marilyn Manson famously took his stage name from combining Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson, saying it represented the contrast between good and evil.

In his autobiography, he wrote something that unsettled even fans: “No one ever suspects the Monroe half might be just as dark as the Manson half.” He added, “Marilyn Monroe had a dark side, just as Charles Manson has a good, intelligent side.” It was a chilling reminder that public personas mask far more complicated truths.
