#16: John Lennon and His Music Were Once Banned
In a surprising reversal, Fidel Castro publicly honored John Lennon two decades after the musician’s death, despite having once banned his music. During the 1960s and 1970s, Communist Cuba viewed the Beatles as symbols of Western decadence and ideological distraction, leading authorities to outlaw their songs.

But by the year 2000, Castro’s stance had shifted dramatically. In a Havana park now named after Lennon, he personally unveiled a bronze statue of the artist, praising his anti-establishment ideals.
