#34: Rest Between Battles
Gladiators didn’t fight every day. Matches were rare events, and each fighter usually had long breaks between them. Recovery time was essential, since injuries were common and battles exhausting. This downtime helped fighters heal, rebuild strength, and prepare mentally for the next time they faced the crowd.

The breaks also added to the drama. Audiences had to wait for favorite fighters to return, building anticipation. For gladiators, the time between fights was uncertain — it could mean recovery, new training, or even dread. Every match felt important because they never knew when the next would come.
