#29: Short Lives in the Arena
Even though gladiators didn’t always fight to the death, many still died young. Constant training, brutal injuries, and the risk of infection made survival difficult. Few gladiators enjoyed long careers, and most lived with the knowledge that each match might be their last. Life in the arena was unforgiving.

Exhaustion also played a role, since training never stopped. Wounds that might be minor today could turn deadly without proper treatment. For the crowd, this danger made the games more thrilling. For the gladiators, it meant every moment of glory came at a high price.
