#13: Fighting Wild Beasts
Gladiators didn’t always face other men. Sometimes they were thrown against lions, bears, or leopards in deadly shows called venationes. These matches were unpredictable, brutal, and dangerous. The animals were exotic, brought from across the empire, and the crowds roared at the sight of man against beast.

For fighters, it was one of the most terrifying assignments. The animals were strong, fast, and nearly impossible to control. Many gladiators didn’t survive these encounters, but that’s what kept the audience hooked. Romans saw it as proof of their dominance over nature itself, no matter the cost.
